Guitar Pro is the world's most popular guitar tablature software — and it's one of the best tools for visualizing and practicing modal scales. Here's how to use Guitar Pro with the Dead Sea Scales system.
Guitar Pro's scale library includes the 7 diatonic modes plus many extended scales. Here's how to map them to the Dead Sea Scales framework:
Guitar Pro's built-in scale diagram tool lets you select any key and scale, then highlights the notes on the fretboard. Use this alongside the Dead Sea Scales interactive tool to see both a static diagram and an interactive, playable version of the same scale.
Write a simple chord progression in Guitar Pro using the diatonic chords of your chosen mode. For Dorian: i — IV — ♭VII (eg. Dm — G — C in D Dorian). Loop this as a backing track and practice the mode over it.
When you open a Guitar Pro tab of a song you want to learn, identify the key and chord movement. Look up which mode is being used in the Dead Sea Scales tool — then practice the tab while consciously hearing the modal context.
