Phrygian vs Aeolian — Two Dark Minor Modes

The ♭2 creates the Spanish/Flamenco sound

Both are minor modes with a dark character. Phrygian adds a flattened 2nd (♭2) — a half step from the root — which creates extreme tension and the Spanish/Flamenco/Middle Eastern character that defines the mode.
